The annual Special Olympics Missouri Southeast Area games were held on Friday, April 12, at Fred M. Morrow Stadium, featuring over 200 athletes representing around 15 area schools and agencies.

Participating on behalf of Poplar Bluff R-I were students from the High School, Junior High, Middle School and O’Neal Elementary. The track and field events involved racing, jumping and throwing.

Taking part in the opening ceremony was the JROTC presenting the colors, the PBHS octette performing the national anthem and Student Council volunteering to help organize, including overseeing intermission activities at Victory Village.

Leading up to the games, each of the participating buildings held school-wide pep rallies to cheer on the student athletes. The event served as a qualifier for the state competition slated to take place next month in Springfield.
